Locke Park - Barnsley
This 46.2 acre site is a grade II listed landscape and is the largest public amenity in central Barnsley. It is a wonderful example, of a largely unspoilt Victorian public park in layout and design. One of the main features in the park is the Locke Tower, the tower was completed in 1877, it offers outstanding veiws over the centre of town and Worsbrough Valley (though is closed to the public at the moment). Another feature is the Bandstand. This opened in 1908 and is still in use today.
The Park is held in trust for the people of Barnsley by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC). BMBC work closely with the Friends of Locke Park (FLP), a local voluntary group, to restore and conserve the Park as a central feature of 21st century Barnsley.
The Park is just a 15 minute walk south from Barnsley Town Hall, and is an outstanding natural heritage and enviroment.
